2022 Taxes
Income Tax Filing is due by April 18, 2023
FOR ALL STUDENTS:
You must complete Form 8843 and send it to the address* that follows no later than April 18:

*Students who are also filing an income tax return, should send the Form 8843 with their Form 1040-NR, NOT to the above address.

This online wizard will walk you through completing the form. Be sure your pop up blocker is disabled! Once completed, you can easily print the completed form, sign, and mail to the above address!
More information to help you complete Form 8843:
Your Taxpayer ID number is your Social Security Number or ITIN. Leave blank if you do not have a social security number or ITIN.

STUDENTS WHO HAVE WORKED IN THE US IN THE 2022 CALENDAR YEAR:
In addition to completing the Form 8843, you must also complete income tax reporting, which includes Federal, Pennsylvania State and Local filings. To learn more, visit this link.
You can file your taxes through a company such as H&R Block. There is a fee for this service.

FEDERAL FILING (Form 1040 NR):
The below items are needed:
1. Visa/Immigration Status information
2. Passport
3. Form I-20 (F) or Form DS-2019 (J)
4. Social Security number
5. Address information (i.e., current US address and foreign address)
6. I-94 travel history
7. Forms W-2, 1042-S and/or 1099 (if you received any)
8. 1098-T
9. Scholarship/fellowship grant letter (if you received any)
10. A copy of your 2019 federal income tax return (Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ), if you filed a federal income tax return last year.
STATE FILING:
As a non-resident you are still required to file a state income tax return. You need to complete PA-40.

You must file a local tax form for the community in which you live.

Medical Insurance
As an F-1 student, you are required to purchase medical insurance that covers you during the academic school year. Medical insurance not only helps to protect you should you need emergency medical care, but also helps to subsidize the costs of any other medical treatment you may required while studying at EU. Applying For a Social Security Number
Before you can begin work on campus, you must apply for a Social Security Number at a local Social Security Office. Below is the application and other useful information regarding the application process. You will also need to request a letter from our office to present to the Social Security Office.

If you are applying for a Driver's License, you will need to apply for a Social Security Number and present your denial letter from the Social Security Office to the DMV.
