Course Offered:

Art 508 - Art Study - Travel Workshop - 3 credits

In this study/travel experience students and the professor will travel to various centers of culture to study and experience at first hand the art and architecture of the culture. This course's purpose is to help understand the historical, aesthetics, and cultural background of Anime. 

Course Content:

1. How has the work by Studio Ghibli been influenced by early Japanese woodcut history?

2. Critical critique on Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away (2 pages-double spaced)
  • How does the film compare its storytelling approach, its aesthetic value, and its character development from western narratives?

3. Daily journal/sketchbook
  • Observational studies from life
  • Reflective thoughts
  • How does Japanese culture compare to your own?
*Tuition and fees will be billed separately for the course at Summer 2019 rates.
